Mesta

This village is quite isolated in relation to the rest of the “Mastichochoria”. It is considered the best preserved medieval village and its fortification is reminiscent of Olympi and Pyrgi. It was included in the map in 1422. Later on, the Genoese intervened drastically in the structure of the village but the dark cobblestone streets, known as vaults, remained unchanged. As a visitor you can wander through the village and enjoy the history the place has to offer. In the past, the enemies were delayed by the labyrinthine streets and the winding paths. Also, you can admire the biggest in size church of Chios, the Monastery of Taksiarches, the square of the village, the Tower of Miletas, and the remote beaches Salagona and Apothika.
