Krasochoria

The northern sunny slopes of Troodos mountains above Limassol are known as Krasochoria because they are famous for their vineyards, wine and charming hilly villages. In Krasochoria the traditional ways of viticulture and wine production are kept alive till nowadays and wine making is the main occupation of the majority of the inhabitants. The well-known red wine of Cyprus is produced here. There are several small wineries that accept visitors for a tour so you can visit them and taste the local wines. You can go to Krasochoria by car and you will be mesmerized by the landscape as you will see old stone bridges and isolated Byzantine churches. You will also drive through picturesque villages, some of which are famous for their pottery or other handicrafts.

The main village of the area is Omodos, with its narrow streets and the beautiful Monastery of Stavros. The monastery houses old paintings, excellent wood carvings and other ecclesiastical objects of great religious and artistic value as well as a traditional lace exhibition. In the streets of the village you can buy local weavings and embroidery or visit the restored winepress.

Other villages worth visiting are Arsos and Fini, known for their traditional pottery and local delights. While in the area, do not forget to visit the picturesque villages of Vasa, Lofos and Kilani. Another village worth visiting is Laneia which is surrounded by vineyards and orchards. This village attracts many artists and several of them have their workshops or houses there.
