Hot Springs

Methana is known for its hot springs. Most spas are located in the area of St. Nicholas. The thermal waters have healing properties due to the volcanic subsoil of the island. The first spa of Methana was founded in 1906.

The sulfur and chloro sodium sources in Methana contain valuable minerals. The healing properties of the thermal waters help in treating diseases such as disc disease, respiratory diseases, chronic bronchitis, gynecological diseases, skin diseases, rheumatism, spondylitis, arthrosis and similar diseases.

In the city, the Vromolimni lake is formed exclusively by 25 sulfur springs. The waters’ temperature is at 28-35 degrees Celsius which is ideal for spa. Furthermore there are cold springs at a temperature of 21-22 degrees Celsius, which function as a drinking water treatment. The combination of spa and therapeutic drinking water helps a lot in the treatment of diseases.

In St. Nicholas, on the coast, there is a cloro sodium source which gushes from a cave. The thermal waters of the spring go to twenty spas and their temperature is about 41 degrees Celsius. The warm healing waters end up into the sea, after they pass through the spa of St. Nicholas.

The most famous healing spring in Methana is the spring of Pausanias in the northeastern region of the island. The water of the spring is at a temperature of 29 degrees Celsius.

Methana spas with their healing waters and therapeutic properties are among the most famous spas in Greece. Many people organize trips, tours and their holidays in Methana to visit spas.
