Church of St. George at Repanidi

The old church of St. George in Repanidi is a cemetery church which has been declared a historical monument. The church is a post-Byzantine basilica which was probably founded in 1860. This type of church is the most characteristic ecclesiastical architecture of post-Byzantine times in Lemnos. Of particular interest is the carved wooden iconostasis and the parapets with vibrant colors. This was a unique form of art which was developed in Lemnos and other islands of the northeastern Aegean during the post-Byzantine era.
