Tomb of Homer

On the hill of Psathopirgos (northern part of Ios), there are the remains of a Hellenistic tower which, based on local tradition, is the tomb of Homer. According to reputable historians of antiquity such as Herodotus, Pausanias, Stravonas and Alkaios, Homer died and was buried on the island. According to legend, the ancient Greek poet died of his distress, not managing to solve a riddle that the local fishermen gave him.

You can reach the monument through a footpath. The area offers a unique view and if you want to rest, you will find a covered gazebo ideal for relaxation and contemplation.
