With a height of over 1600 meters, Mount Saos is the highest and most impressive mountain in the Aegean. It takes its name from the pre-Hellenic word "samos" meaning height, and it is also known as Moon, since they say the mountain is so high that it hides the moon. On the slopes you can enjoy a walk through endless forests of trees accompanied by the presence of running water.When you are on the mountain, you can rest in the famous natural pools formed by the waterfalls. The view is breathtaking and the ascent, although difficult, is a life experience. The mountain is an attraction pole for mountaineering clubs, but even if you are a novice you can still follow similar routes by consulting a hiking map. The hiking trails begin from Therma or Chora and the ascent takes around five hours.
