Kourion Theatre

Kourion Theatre is located at the southern end of the steep hill on which the town was built. It was constructed at the end of the 2nd century BC but acquired its current dimensions in the 2nd century AD. The theater consists of a semi-circular orchestra that is surrounded by seats. On either side of the stage there were two arched aisles from where people entered the theater. The theater could accommodate up to 3,500 spectators.

During subsequent reconstruction, the theater was converted into a place which could accommodate beast fights. Nowadays, many cultural activities and theatrical performances take place here, especially in the summer.
